I originally wrote this poem back in 2009 as part of a poetry class exercise. I polished it a little but honestly, I pretty much left it alone.

Steadily, softly, darkness ensues.

Calm thoughts, suddenly curtailed by cold images.

Frozen, slick, still.

Silence envelopes you

Bewildering the mind.

Stumbling, tumbling, slipping

Slowly, surely, you ease into oblivion.

Your mind fades away.

A distant memory of what was.

What is, what could’ve been…

Gone. Lost. Forever in disarray.

Collapsed on the floor from the weight of it all.

Cold sweat from a furrowed brow.

The dark consumes you.

Floating, floating, endless floating.

Until floating ceases.

A slice of time from a troubled mind.

Silence
