“The hardest part is when the river
is too swift and goes underground for days on end”
~Jim Harrison from Songs of Unreason

Where does the flow go?

When the inspiration dries up,

When the lines don’t fit quite right,

When the words seem shallow and the feelings opaque.

Where does the water go?

Will it return?

And if it returns will it be the same?

Will the rich silt of thought still stir my heart the same?

Or has the swift current eroded more than just the soil,

Has it, at last, worn away the once proud walls of my canyon.
