“You’re right,” she says softly. “maybe this is cruel. Maybe it would’ve been kinder to simply let you die. But this isn’t about you, Ella. This is about me. And right now,” she says, stroking my hair, “this is what I need.”

Juliette Ella is in the hands of the Reestablishment, more importantly, the hands of her parents. After capturing her at the end of Restore Me, she is now back home in the one place she never wanted to be. She and Warner are separated. He’s going through tortures of his own. Can they be reunited before Ella’s parents succeed with their diabolical plan?

Book Five in this wild ride of series is told from three perspectives, Juliette’s, Warner’s, and Kenji. The perspectives moved the story along and added depth to the story. The action in this book was great, and the villains. These parents in the Reestablishment are something else! The romance in this book was a little spicier too.

Format: Kindle

Genre: YA/Fantasy

Pros:

Told from multiple perspectives, this kept the story engaging, and I knew where the characters were in time.

The villains and their lines!! These villains had some catchy lines that had me sitting up and paying attention. Shook!

Warner. That’s it. He’s the pro.

Watching the team grow and expand their different personalities. Loved it.

The plot twists!

Cons:

Kenji. I love this guy. I do. But he’s got about one more time to interrupt a moment before I help Warner chuck out a window.

T/W: Violence, sexual allusions, language

Rating: 4.5

Closing thoughts :

Order was restored to this series with this book. The action, the story, the world building-expansion was just so good. The drama! I loved this book. I will never get tired of Warner hearing he’s loved and his shock at the idea of someone knowing him, seeing good in him, and wanting him. Ugh. Love him. Defy Me is book 5 of 6, in the Shatter Me series by Tahereh Mafi. Let me know if you give this book a chance.

Alright, that’s it, folks. As always, read what interests you and share some kindness.
